Traveling Test Kitchen

Posted by sarahm@cherryrepublic.com on 18th Apr 2019

February 28 - We're Hitting The Road! March and early April can be a bit quiet in the Republic, so we decided it would be the perfect time for a road trip! Starting next weekend, March 9-10, we'll be packing up our Traveling Test Kitchen and hitting the road. Our goal? Visit Citizens throughout the state and have them give us feedback on some new products we're thinking of rolling out this summer. We hope to see you along the way! March 8 - First Stop: Traverse City! Our Traveling T ...

Celebrating Our Love of Mother Earth

Posted by sarahm@cherryrepublic.com on 18th Apr 2019

If Christmas is our favorite holiday at Cherry Republic, Earth Day is a close second. Because as much as we love brightening peoples' spirits with ruby red morsels of joy, we also love caring for our planet. In fact one of our Core Values is "LIFE: We value and appreciate Northern Michigan and cherries." That's why we've given more than $2 million to mostly environmental and farmland nonprofits since our inception in 1989. Some of our favorite organizations have included the Leelanau Conserva ...

Amanda and her Bachelorette Party!

Posted by sarahm@cherryrepublic.com on 8th Apr 2019

The state of Texas takes on Cherry Republic! Judy, Katie, Meghane, Amanda and Vanessa traveled from Texas all the way to good ol’ Northern Michigan for Amanda’s bachlorette party (#holymattemony!)! Their favorite part of Traverse City is the snow (believe it or not). “The snow is just so pretty. We don’t get to see that in Texas. When it has ever tried, it just hits the ground and melts,” said Amanda, the future bride to be. They all commented on how scenic it is up here, as well. They are sp ...

Lorenzo and Madeline!

Posted by sarahm@cherryrepublic.com on 3rd Apr 2019

Meet Lorenzo and Madeline. Lorenzo is two and a half and Madeline is three. They have known each other since they were born and consider each other to be best friends. They are not related, although you’d think they were brother and sister. Their favorite part about Cherry Republic of Traverse City is Boomer’s Tree House, of course! They enjoy climbing on it and playing together. However, their “favoritest” part of all is the ball pit. Lorenzo and Madeline like to pretend that it’s the ocean ...

Introducing Citizens of the Republic

Posted by sarahm@cherryrepublic.com on 27th Mar 2019

Have you heard of the famous ‘Humans of New York’ blog created by Brandon Stanton? He interviewed and photographed individuals in New York City, including quotes and short stories from their lives alongside candid portraits. Stanton’s blog inspired us and got us thinking about how Cherry Republic could learn more about our Citizens. Well, one of our core values at Cherry Republic is Liberty, or wholeheartedness and passion, which means we work from the heart to touch hearts. Anot ...

Port Oneida Ski

Posted by Mary W on 14th Feb 2019

On Sunday, my family and I skied across some beautiful secret terrain in the most difficult to get to sections of Port Oneida Historic District. We dropped our car off on Port Oneida Road and then climbed into our truck and drove four miles to a spot between Bass Lake and Narada and skied some woods and hilly fields east of M-22. The snow was perfect for making gentle turns through the junipers and wild cherry trees. Then, the boys and I went to cross Narada Lake by the beaver dam on the ...

Skiing The Dunes

Posted by andi@cherryrepublic.com on 8th Feb 2019

All the snow and cold of the Polar Vortex left much of the Dunes covered in snow, so Steph and I dropped a car off at Sleeping Bear Point and parked another at the start of the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive with a plan to ski the entire Dunes. We left at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon having no idea how long it would take. But the temperature and winds were mild, so if we were out longer than intended, we’d be OK. For the first half of our ski, we didn’t think to take photos. This was the fi ...

The 2019 Polar Vortex

Posted by Mary W on 1st Feb 2019

I thought it would be fun to share my Polar Vortex experience in words and photos. I love subzero cold and fresh snow, so this is going to be a positive review. If you wanted to hear complaints, I don’t know where to send you because everyone in my life seems pretty happy with this extreme winter experience. Ok, I will start with when I was least happy with this cold. I took the boys on a drive around the county on our coldest day to see what it was like in our community. I stopped at the ...

Boomer Bear Makes It Home For Christmas

Posted by Mary W on 19th Dec 2018

Boomer Bear celebrates his long-anticipated return to the Frankenmuth Cherry Republic store. Boomer visits with Santa in Traverse City. Longtime Citizens of the Republic are familiar with Boomer, our affable bear. He's always in high demand, often traveling between our six Michigan stores. He's become quite the celeb over the years, making guest appearances at ribbon cuttings, visits with Santa, and at various parades. So we were more that a little concerned when he went missing in late ...

Hot Cherry Cheese Dip

Posted by Mary W on 15th Nov 2018

Thanks to Shannon Murphy for submitting this recipe for our 2018 Holiday Recipe Contest! Shannon prefers to use our Original Cherry Salsa, but feel free to use the heat level of your choice -- from Mild to Hot to Cherries on Fire! This dip is best served hot/warm with tortilla chips (she suggests the Scoops-like chips), but it's also delicious reheated or even cold! Makes enough for a 10-person party when served with other appetizers. For fun presentation, sprinkle additional chopped dried ch ...

Celebrating Leaf Day - The Republic's Holiday

Posted by andrewm on 12th Oct 2018

Ask most CR employees, and they’ll most likely tell you their favorite season is fall. Northern Michigan weather is still beautiful, and there’s a nice lull between the crazy days of summer and the jolly-yet-hectic weeks leading up to Christmas. What is Leaf Day? The only problem is, there isn’t an official holiday that time of year. So with a nod toward our whimsical company value of ‘Beaches’ (as in “Life, Liberty, Beaches & Pie ...

An Evening Supporting MLCV With Bob + Steph

Posted by andrewm on 31st Jul 2018

Cherry Republic President Bob Sutherland and his wife, Stephanie, are hosting a party at the new Cherry Public House in Glen Arbor to support Michigan League of Conservation Voters (MLCV). We will discuss the current state of Michigan’s waterways and our vision for a powerful conservation voters movement in 2018 and beyond. Please come join Bob and Steph and many other like-minded lovers of Michigan's woods and waters to see what actions we can take to protect them for generations to come. P ...
