Leaf Day: A Great Republic Holiday

Posted by Sarah M. on Oct 16th 2019

If you ask most Cherry Republic employees what their favorite season is, they’ll more than likely tell you that it's fall. In Northern Michigan, the weather during this time of year is still beautiful, and there’s a nice lull between the crazy days of summer and the jolly-yet-hectic weeks leading up to Christmas. The only problem is, there isn’t an official holiday throughout the fall season. So with a nod toward our whimsical company value of ‘Beaches’ (as in “Life, Liberty, Beaches & Pie"), ...

Ask most CR employees, and they’ll most likely tell you their favorite season is fall. A Wonderful Leaf Day 2017

Posted by andrewm on Oct 19th 2017

First Stop: Grass Lake Nature Preserve I took my family to the other side of Grand Traverse Bay — to Torch Lake, Bellaire and the farms, trails, woods and wetlands of Antrim County. It took some time to persuade the boys that this switch in Leaf Day activities would be worth it. “Usually, we go exploring nature in Sleeping Bear Dunes Park for the whole day,” reasoned Colebrook. “There’s no time wasted sitting in a car.”  “It is a change,” I agreed. “You don’t have to go — you can stay in sc ...

Leaf Day Around the Republic

Posted by andrewm on Oct 19th 2017

Cherry Ambassadors around the Republic took full advantage of Leaf Day 2017. From baking with family and friends, to fishing in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, to driving a semi to Kansas City for our first holiday gift show of 2017. Here are some of our favorite stories... Fishing the Pere Marquette River JP, our I.T. hero, spent his Leaf Day on a day-long guided fishing float trip down the Pere Marquette River with Steve Galbraith and world renowned fishing guide Steve Cornetet.  It was a beauti ...

Leaf Day - A Letter from Our President

Dear Customers, I am happy to announce Leaf Day, our very own Cherry Republic National Holiday. We will be closed today Monday, October 16, to honor the autumn season and all the good in our lives. It is your support that has compelled us to work tirelessly this summer and fall to ke ...

Sutherland's Leaf Day Adventure

Posted by bob on Oct 20th 2016

Due to the thunderstorm, we started out on our third annual Leaf Day hike a little later than usual. The boys wanted to hike the dunes, so my goal was to hit the most remote and difficult-to-get-to spots on this special day off from work and school. Steph dropped me off with the boys at the southernmost point on the Sleeping Bear Dunes - The Scenic Drive overlook. Unfortunately, she could not join us as she had work to do in Grand Rapids, so she gave the boys and me some big hugs to carry ...

Leaf Day Wrap Up For 2015

Posted by bob on Oct 22nd 2015

Leaf Day was a success this year at Cherry Republic. In northern Michigan the weather on Friday started out sketchy - many of the area football games were played in rain, sleet and snow. However, as the hours closed in on our new holiday, the weather became much better. When Monday arrived, it was a fantastic day for Cherry Republic employees to enjoy some well deserved time outdoors. Here are some of the activities our staff were able to do  while celebrating Cherry Republic's very own fall ...

Cherry Republic's Leaf Day

Posted by bob on Oct 7th 2015

What should citizens do on Leaf Day? Dress up? Give gifts? Hide Baskets? Make a big dinner? Those are all too much work. How about do nothing. How about a purposeless day? A day to just reflect on the beauty of nature? Leaf Day was created by Cherry Republic to celebrate the amazing colors of fall, and to take a day to reflect or enjoy the outdoors in the last of our good weather.  We are all so busy all summer and into fall that we don’t often find time to just enjoy the outdoors.  Leaf Day w ...
