This is Renee's second summer as Glen Arbor's Assistant Manager and she loves hot dogs!!!! This ...

From Trees to Bowls

Posted by bob on 16th Jun 2016

Northwestern Michigan Woodturners Club joined residents on the patio at Cherry Republic Tuesday night.  David Watt, pictured on the right is one of the woodturners and helped organize the event. The bowls pictured above were donated by woodturners for people to purchase by simply writing a thank you note and making a donation to the "Re-Arbor Glen Arbor" fund. The bowls all came from local trees which fell during the August 2nd storm. Bob greets Deb Shutt a local resident who is holdin ...

Changes in the Republic

Posted by LauraAnn on 2nd Jun 2016

We are excited to share with you all we have been working on this spring. We hope you enjoy the photos below. Above is a birds eye view from inside our NEW Frankenmuth store.  Our staff worked hard to get this store up and running just a few weeks ago, just in time for the famous 2016 Dog Bowl . Katie, our Ann Arbor store manager, is pictured below with one of the dog bowl winners Dexter.  Katie tried to take a photo with every four legged customer that stopped by. Our Grand Ca ...

Red Ladder Sneak Peek

Posted by bob on 26th May 2016

The original t-shirt! I start this blog with the original Cherry Republic t-shirt, which was this odd first product that had nothing to do with the 190 cherry food products we are known for.  But we have now come full circle, and have a home and complimentary line of products for this iconic shirt.  That Red Ladder tag makes this shirt pop like it never has before.   All of our new t-shirts nicely in their new home Our original t-shirt now has lots of great friends to hang out with.   ...

Cherry Republic Introduces a New Line of Unique Products

Posted by LauraAnn on 10th May 2016

Cherry Republic is happy to introduce "The Red Ladder," their new line of unique products designed to surprise and delight everyone who is already a fan of their "Life, Liberty, Beaches, and Pie" way of living.  These products celebrate the natural creativity of Northern Michigan and represent a new way to take home a little their goal to maintain the "handcrafted in Michigan and perfected in Glen Arbor" philosophy. So they’ve carefully sourced items from vendors that are first and foremost from ...

Keep Calm - It's Tax Day

Posted by LauraAnn on 14th Apr 2016

Monday is Federal Income Tax Day. To help you come to terms with all that you pay to Uncle Sam, we thought it would be good to remind you of the five things that our federal government does that we all love! Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive is only one of the many spots to visit in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. Word in Washington was that this was one of the most expensive per square foot parks in the whole system and one of the most diffic ...

Jelly, jam, preserves, fruit butters and conserves, what is the difference?

Posted by andrewm on 8th Apr 2016

While we all love grandma's canned jam, fruit preserves, or apple butter, did anyone know if it was technically a jam or a jelly?  I personally have always wondered what is the difference, and the same goes for all of Cherry Republic’s jellies, jams, preserves, fruit butters… and now our new conserve. Jelly is made from a combination of sugar, pectin, acid (citric acid), and fruit juice, cooked together to become a clear fruit spread. The fruit juice is the key to the clear appearance.  Whi ...

2016 Glen Arbor Area Winter

Posted by bob on 28th Jan 2016

Above is a favorite angle of the Crystal River at the Dunns Farm Rd culvert. Here is a second view of the Dunns Farm culvert looking straight up the Crystal River.  If you have never paddled the Crystal in the winter, this mild winter would be a great year to do it. Can you see the duck in flight at the far side of the Crystal.  If the river freezes over, the ducks all head to Lake Michigan. The plows were out in mass.  We had a two hour school delay, which is almost as ...

Re-Arbor Glen Arbor Raises $45,000

Posted by bob on 20th Nov 2015

The Re-Arbor Glen Arbor Fundraising Campaign has raised $45,000.  Thank you to all who have contributed to this important effort.  From the moment the storm cleared, we’ve been hard at work clearing, rebuilding and fundraising.  What have we accomplished in the three months since the storm?  Here is a short photo blog update: We have to begin with the Glen Lake Community Reform Church’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors volunteer effort.  They have cleaned up 27 yards and put in 500 volunteer ...

Bob's Cherry Republic Plunge

Posted by bob on 6th Nov 2015

I had resigned myself to be done - that after 15 years of jumping in Lake Michigan every month of the year, that my run of invigorating dives were over.  And so, I began telling people that this October would be the first month in 188 that I did not jump in.  I felt a deep loss saying it.  And the more I said it the more painful it became.  But, I reminded myself, the last two years were the coldest in 40 years and made my fun hobby feel like work.  In February of 2013, I dove into Lake Mich ...

2015 Port Oneida Community Dinner Success

Posted by bob on 22nd Oct 2015

Here are a few photos of the Port Oneida Historic Dinner.  It was the first time Cherry Republic has ever dressed up our little cafe and winery and did a fundraiser like this.  The dinner sold out and it was a nice balance of locals and long time customers and visitors.  We raised about $2,000 for the Port Oneida Community Alliance, but more importantly, we celebrated and thanked Jim Kelderhouse and the members of POCA for their hard work this summer.  It was fantastic to see crops growing on so ...

Leaf Day Wrap Up For 2015

Posted by bob on 22nd Oct 2015

Leaf Day was a success this year at Cherry Republic. In northern Michigan the weather on Friday started out sketchy - many of the area football games were played in rain, sleet and snow. However, as the hours closed in on our new holiday, the weather became much better. When Monday arrived, it was a fantastic day for Cherry Republic employees to enjoy some well deserved time outdoors. Here are some of the activities our staff were able to do  while celebrating Cherry Republic's very own fall ...

Cherry Republic's Leaf Day

Posted by bob on 7th Oct 2015

What should citizens do on Leaf Day? Dress up? Give gifts? Hide Baskets? Make a big dinner? Those are all too much work. How about do nothing. How about a purposeless day? A day to just reflect on the beauty of nature? Leaf Day was created by Cherry Republic to celebrate the amazing colors of fall, and to take a day to reflect or enjoy the outdoors in the last of our good weather.  We are all so busy all summer and into fall that we don’t often find time to just enjoy the outdoors.  Leaf Day w ...

Re-Arbor Task Force is seeking property owners who need help

Posted by bob on 10th Sep 2015

August 2015 has been a month that few Glen Arborans will forget. We all crave getting back to normal, and there are times that normalcy feels close, but there are other times when our old life feels so far away-- as if we may have to wait as long as it will take one of those great white oaks to replace it’s fallen brother. (The photo above is of a snapped white oak that still perilously rests  over Riverside Pizza’s outdoor seating area.  White oaks are one of the strongest woods on eart ...
