Leaf Day: A Great Republic Holiday

Posted by Sarah M. on 16th Oct 2019

If you ask most Cherry Republic employees what their favorite season is, they’ll more than likely tell you that it's fall. In Northern Michigan, the weather during this time of year is still beautiful, and there’s a nice lull between the crazy days of summer and the jolly-yet-hectic weeks leading up to Christmas. The only problem is, there isn’t an official holiday throughout the fall season. So with a nod toward our whimsical company value of ‘Beaches’ (as in “Life, Liberty, Beaches & Pie"), ...

Biking the U.S. for M.S.

Posted by andrewm on 26th Jul 2018

Back in March, we got an email from Jerry VanStrien, a cycle-enthusiast on a mission. Jerry was about to embark on a cross-country bike trip from Kentucky to San Francisco to raise money to battle Multiple Sclerosis — and he was looking for some fuel for his team in the form of cherry love. Here’s part of his letter to us: “Hello, Mary! Bike the US for MS organizes cross-country bike trips that raise awareness for multiple sclerosis research & volunteer for patients. The May Farm: Harvesting Sunlight

Posted by andrewm on 17th May 2018

It seems fitting to write a blog post about a solar grant project against the backdrop of spring’s lengthening days. The plants, animals and humans on the farm are harvesting every extra minute of daylight, faces tilted toward the sun. Our interest in solar energy was ignited by the 70’s “back to the land" movement and reading Foxfire books. Decades later it was re-ignited by the 90’s “regenerative farming” movement and reading books by Michael Pollan, Joel Salatin and Wendell Berry. Thus, ...

Sneak Peek: The Cherry Public House!

Posted by andrewm on 11th May 2018

Our new Cherry Public House is one week away from opening.  It is looking fantastic and we are so excited.   Here is a little sneak peak as we finish up the zillion final details. Here is a view from the front of the newly renovated building.  You see new windows and doors, a new patio, and a new paint color with a first coat that's looking a little bit too orange.  This renovation into a brewery and full service restaurant serving dinners, dinners, and more dinners was a big job. We ripped ...

Detroit Tigers In The Republic

Posted by andrewm on 26th Jan 2018

A line of eager Detroit Tigers fans snaked through our Traverse City store and down Front Street yesterday afternoon, hoping for the chance to snap a selfie with soon-to-be Hall of Famer Alan Trammell and pitchers Shane Greene and Daniel Stumpf as the Detroit Tigers Winter Caravan rolled into Northern Michigan. The three players happily served up free samples of cherry pie, ice cream and Sour Cherry Patches for about 30 minutes, while chatting with fans and posing for photos. The spirited event ...

Posted by andrewm on 2nd Nov 2017

There’s no wondering if your gifts end up in the right box. No gift wrapping marathon on a wobbly card table. No grueling trip to the Post Office or UPS store. Just the satisfact ...

The Balaton Cherry - From France And Hungary, With Love

Posted by andrewm on 18th Aug 2017

You may be a self-professed tart cherry aficionado, but do you know how Traverse City and the surrounding area came to be known as the Cherry Capital of the World? And here’s a bonus question worthy of Trivia Night: Can you name the differences between a Montmorency and a Balaton cherry? Cherry Capital of the World Let’s start with the illustrious Cherry Capital title. In the mid-19th century, a Presbyterian missionary named Peter Dougherty was in search of a crop that would flourish in the sa ...
