Now Is The Time to Protect our National Lands

Posted by andrewm on Dec 6th 2017

"National parks are the best idea we ever had. Absolutely American, absolutely democratic, they reflect us at our best rather than our worst." -- Wallace Stegner, Writer & Historian Photo credit to Scott Thomsen. One day last week, I needed to clear my head. I stepped out of my office, jogged the short distance toward the water, and was at the Lake Michigan shoreline in minutes. I spent the next hour walking the beach, breathing in the wonder of this majestic body of fresh water, and fee ...

The 31 Days of Giving

Posted by andrewm on Dec 1st 2017

Cherry Republic is proud to announce the 50+ worthwhile recipients of our 2017 31 Days of Giving.  Our donations are focused on environmental and agricultural organizations with vision. This year, we introduce a new mission of ours --  In five years, Cherry Republic will be powered by 100% local renewable energy.  We hope to contribute to organizations that share the same values, but we all have five years to get there.  Check back each day around 12 P.M. EST as we recognize and reward a new ...

The Joy of Giving

Posted by andrewm on Nov 17th 2017

The holiday season is here, and at Cherry Republic we’ve had “joy” on our minds. The joy of living in Northern Michigan … the joy of two terrific cherry crops in a row … the joy of a successful summer and fall season (thanks to all of you). But perhaps most importantly, we are focused on the joy of giving. After all, nothing feels better than brightening someone’s world with a heartfelt gift of ruby red morsels of joy from the happy lands of Northern Michigan.   And so, with joy in our hearts ...

A Wonderful Leaf Day 2017

Posted by andrewm on Oct 19th 2017

First Stop: Grass Lake Nature Preserve I took my family to the other side of Grand Traverse Bay — to Torch Lake, Bellaire and the farms, trails, woods and wetlands of Antrim County. It took some time to persuade the boys that this switch in Leaf Day activities would be worth it. “Usually, we go exploring nature in Sleeping Bear Dunes Park for the whole day,” reasoned Colebrook. “There’s no time wasted sitting in a car.”  “It is a change,” I agreed. “You don’t have to go — you can stay in sc ...

Leaf Day - A Letter from Our President

Posted by andrewm on Oct 16th 2017

Dear Customers, I am happy to announce Leaf Day, our very own Cherry Republic National Holiday. We will be closed today Monday, October 16, to honor the autumn season and all the good in our lives. I feel like I should apologize to all of you for being closed, but truly, more than anything, I feel compelled to express my gratitude to the hundreds of thousands of people who have supported us so loyally. It is your support that has compelled us to work tirelessly this summer and fall to ke ...

Two Boys and Their Lines

Posted by andrewm on Sep 22nd 2017

The Coho came into the Crystal River recently.  Colebrook and Hawthorn have been driving by the fishermen on their way to school each day, which really put them in a fishing frenzy this past weekend.  On Friday night, we shopped in TC for spawn bags, hooks, and heavy duty line, and when the boys woke up Saturday morning they had one goal-- catch a big Coho, King or Chinook Salmon.   [gallery columns="2" size="medium" ids="5874,5875"] As you can see from the photo’s, both boys had success. ...

Glen Arbor Campus Expansion

Posted by andrewm on Aug 23rd 2017

At Cherry Republic, we have what you would call a good problem. We’ve been so blessed with visitors flocking to our Glen Arbor campus that we are, quite literally, bursting at the seams. We simply cannot squeeze any more customers into our store, winery, and cafe. And like many of our fellow Glen Arbor retailers and restaurateurs, we are fortunate to have the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes National Lakeshore bringing so many new people to our little lakeside town.   We also realize that with all of ...

A Toast to Resilience: Glen Arbor and the Storm of 2015

Posted by Mary W on Aug 4th 2017

August 2, 2017, marked the second anniversary of the Glen Arbor Storm of 2015. In a way, it's hard to believe it's been two years. Yet when I consider how far we've come since that fateful day, my heart is full of pride for our community. I think it's important to look back, though, and revisit the raw emotions of that time.  The Storm The Storm of 2015 was a sudden and devastating event that rocked our idyllic village to its core that steamy summer afternoon. Crushing winds reached 100 mph ...

A Walk In The Woods... To School

Posted by andrewm on Jun 15th 2017

Seven days before the Glen Lake Community School year ended, Colebrook, Hawthorn and I completed our annual walk to school.  I think this photo of our eleven year old taking a break at the Alligator Hill overlook perfectly captured this beautiful day and our world class commute. Colebrook looking over Lake Michigan. We happened to walk by Grammy’s house at the start of our walk.  We caught her in her pink bathrobe on her way to pick up her paper. Grammy, getti ...

Cherry Fun Facts

Posted by bob on Feb 8th 2017

In celebration of National Cherry Month, we put together a fun blog of facts about the world’s greatest fruit.  Did you know that the reason Broadway Street in New York City shifts west at E. 10th street is because a cherry tree once sat there?  Here are more facts to impress your friends with. Cherries are a stone fruit that belong to the rose family.  They are related to plums and more distantly to peaches and nectarines.  Cherries have been enjoyed since the Stone Age. The word "c ...

Now that 2017 is upon us, it is time to take a look back at all of our Cherry Republic memories from 2016. Charlevoix Fire

Posted by bob on Dec 29th 2016

Fire in Charlevoix.  On Christmas Eve morning, Cherry Republic lost our Charlevoix store to an intense fire in the beautiful building we reside in.  No one was hurt.  We will be OK, but our hearts go out to our landlord, the 17 other tenants in his destroyed building and this close knit resort town which has had two major fires in six weeks.  Our President went to visit the store and here his blog about it. This is photo shows what happens when you blend Christmas and Halloween together.  Yik ...

Gift From the Heart

Posted by LauraAnn on Dec 16th 2016

A Gift from the Heart Some of our staff’s favorite gifts they’ve ever received were handwritten notes from friends, family, and kids. It’s these treasured keepsakes that mean more then anything tangible to people. That’s why our elves whipped up some handy postcards ready for you to print at home and mail or, even better,  hand-deliver to your loved ones! ...
