Boomer's Winter Getaway

Posted by Sarah M on Nov 10th 2020

A week ago, a blanket of snow covered the ground, but throughout the past few days, the weather has been spectacular, providing the perfect mix of blue skies and brilliant sunshine. The change in weather not only has us confused, but Boomer the Bear is quite baffled as well. We ran into him out on a hike the other day when he said, "I thought I was ready to sleep away the next few months, but I really just want to keep exploring!" Being in Northern Michigan, it's just a matter of time before Boo ...

You'll find a different Christmas tree display in each of our stores, making every tree unique to that location. At our Glen Arbor location, you'll be greeted by Big Bertha, a 14 ft tall concolor fir tree from Schmuckal's Tr ...

It's S'november in Glen Arbor

Posted by Sarah M on Nov 14th 2019

On Tuesday, Glen Arbor and its surroundings woke up to the most astounding 30 inches of snow I've witnessed in my half century in the north. It was powdery like the stuff the mountains get. It was picturesque like the wildest north woods. The morning was calm and quiet, and while there was barely anywhere to go, it felt so good to be outside. When the official snow totals were in, Glen Arbor had 30 inches and a few hillsides had 38 inches that left us all stunned while working to move it out of o ...

Leaf Day: A Great Republic Holiday

Posted by Sarah M. on Oct 16th 2019

If you ask most Cherry Republic employees what their favorite season is, they’ll more than likely tell you that it's fall. In Northern Michigan, the weather during this time of year is still beautiful, and there’s a nice lull between the crazy days of summer and the jolly-yet-hectic weeks leading up to Christmas. The only problem is, there isn’t an official holiday throughout the fall season. So with a nod toward our whimsical company value of ‘Beaches’ (as in “Life, Liberty, Beaches & Pie"), ...

Celebrating Our Love of Mother Earth

Posted by sarahm@cherryrepublic.com on Apr 18th 2019

If Christmas is our favorite holiday at Cherry Republic, Earth Day is a close second. Because as much as we love brightening peoples' spirits with ruby red morsels of joy, we also love caring for our planet. In fact one of our Core Values is "LIFE: We value and appreciate Northern Michigan and cherries." That's why we've given more than $2 million to mostly environmental and farmland nonprofits since our inception in 1989. Some of our favorite organizations have included the Leelanau Conserva ...

Some Snowy Springtime Fun

Posted by andrewm on Apr 14th 2018

It snowed eight inches again last night. Here we are, halfway through April and Northern Michigan is back to winter wonderland for the second time in 10 days. We’ve had these little windows of spring that allowed us a hike on the beach last weekend. It was a mix of beautiful sandy beach to stretch out on (in our coats) and yet, just 100 yards down the beach four foot ice mounds to climb on. Here are some photos of the family and I enjoying a beach of perfect balance between winter and spring. ...

Fall Color Tour of Leelanau County - Our Top Spots

Posted by andrewm on Oct 5th 2017

Northern Michigan's fall foliage is legendary, and Leelanau county might be the crowning jewel. While most visitors experience the soft summer hues of Caribbean blue waters, sparkling beige sands, and lush green forests, when summer ends and temps drop Autumn is ready to move in. Across the county, the foliage covering the rolling sandy landscape is slowly painted soft hues of gold, scarlet, purple, and orange, eventually giving way to an explosive peak of magical scenic transformation in mid ...

Top 10 Northern Michigan Spring Activities

Posted by andrewm on Apr 6th 2017

To us locals, spring in northern Michigan is all about the conflict between the sun and the north wind. This age old battle plays out on the dunes and orchards and woods and water. And then every year, to us warm-blooded human's delight, the sun wins! Spring is especially nice. The crowds are thin and and even the best restaurants have a table available. The sun returns to warm the earth, giving way to leafing trees, vibrant wild flowers, and lively wildlife; ideal conditions for a long hike ...

2015 Port Oneida Community Dinner Success

Posted by bob on Oct 22nd 2015

Here are a few photos of the Port Oneida Historic Dinner.  It was the first time Cherry Republic has ever dressed up our little cafe and winery and did a fundraiser like this.  The dinner sold out and it was a nice balance of locals and long time customers and visitors.  We raised about $2,000 for the Port Oneida Community Alliance, but more importantly, we celebrated and thanked Jim Kelderhouse and the members of POCA for their hard work this summer.  It was fantastic to see crops growing on so ...

It is fall and time for a celebration of everyone’s hard work this summer!

Morning light shining down on the Kelderhouse home This joyful occasion is dedicated to the first bounty in over 50 years, we’ve planned this dinner to celebrate Jim Kelderhouse’s organization known as the Port Oneida Community Association. Proceeds from the dinner will go to the Port Oneida Community Association. We will raise a gracious toast to Jim and his group of volunteers. We will enjoy amazing food and charming company and we celebrate not only their hard work but, the return of an e ...
