(16 reviews)

Let us introduce you to the Balaton Cherry. Originally discovered near Lake Balaton in Hungary, this unique variety is a little bit darker, a little bit spicier, and a little bit plumper than our Montmorency original. Introduced to the Republic in 1984, citizens don't need to travel across the ocean to find the Balatons anymore.

    Balaton Cherries

These plump flavorful dried cherries have become my new obsession...use them daily in my oatmeal and add them to chicken as well as leafy green salads. Also added them to a cranberry chutney I made for the Holidays...big raves!

    Like sophisticated candy!

Don't get me wrong - I love Montmorencys. But the Balatons are a whole different level of delicious - big and plump, they have a deeper, almost spicy flavor that makes me think of a big, juicy Cabernet Sauvignon. Definite tart and tangy bite, but still sweet - in short, amazing!

    Delicious!!!

I received these cherries in a gift package. The box arrived in perfect condition, very carefully and beautifully packed. The cherries are delicious. You can eat them alone as a snack, add them to yoghurt or ice cream or use them for baking.

    Tasty and Unique

These cherries are very tart, leathery-firmness, and grainy compared to regular cherries. These, fresh or reconstituted, I imagine would be the perfect pie cherry!

    Excellent flavor and texture

We have loved Balatons for a decade after a Michigan vacation. Now we give them as gifts and everyone raves about them.

    Delicious but ...

These taste marvelous, but I wish they came without added sugar and oil.

Excellent cherry bought first time on vacation this summer. Buying them now for Christmas presents. Great in oatmeal or by the handful.
