New Art in Glen Arbor!
Cherry Republic is starting a sculpture garden in Glen Arbor! Our first piece is called "Bee Hive Wind Machine" and was created by nationally-recognized local artist Dewey Blocksma. The piece represents the vanishing honey bee and its importance in pollinating flowers and trees. The work of honey bees is critical to Cherry Republic's livelihood - without them, cherry trees couldn't produce fruit. This sculpture serves as a reminder of the fragility of Northern Michigan's ecosystem. Look for more sculptures in the future since we have formed an alliance with the Michigan Legacy Art Park, which has fantastic sculptures by artists all from over the world on several acres of beautiful woods and trails at Crystal Mountain Resort. For more about the Michigan Legacy Art Park, go here. For more about Dewey, go here.

Photo Contest Winner Announced
The winning photo from 2007's photo contest was submitted by Tom White of St. Louis, Missouri. The photo illustrates what happens when you leave cherry pie and puppies unattended. We call it Happy Puppy! It will grace the walls of our Grand Cafe among past winners. This years runner-up was submitted by Paul Sutherland of Traverse City, and shows Bennett Polikoff with his version of a cherry hot dog. Licorice and Sour Patches make for great garnish! This years photo contest is already underway and we invite you to download an entry form.

Cherries are here!
We have two cherry trees that are full of beautiful, delicious and ripe Queen Anne cherries sitting out in our gardens right at this moment. I picked some just a minute ago. And I'll go out and pick more as soon as I write this. I'm in a hurry - the birds have discovered them and they are going to town with their beaks. A robin was so distracted by eating a cherry, he didn't even notice me picking right next to him. I smacked him on his tail feathers and he went flying with a big squawk. I need to get the ladder and start picking. Gotta run.
