| LOOK----> Cherry Creme Honey----> Inaugural Pit Spit a huge success! Last night we christened the newest addition to our Glen Arbor property: North America's only Olympic-size Pit Spitting Arena. There were 86 participants from as close as Empire, MI to as far away as Raleigh, NC. Over 150 people were there to witness the first of many pit spits! We're still ironing out the rules (creating them actually), and we did have some disqualifications (as much as we enjoy the thought of spitting out foreign fruits, you can't throw a banana in the arena). You can view the competition and arena here. |

Cherry Crop Update The cherry crop looks to be smaller than last year's tremendous harvest, but there will be enough cherries to meet the growing demand for America's favorite super-fruit. There was some damage to the crop by a late freeze and storm, but most of the loss according to Dr. Nikki Rothwell at the Northwest Michigan Horticultural Resource Station was because of cold and sluggish honey bees, unable to work in the low temperatures. We managed to get some of the bees to work: see this week's special. Like every year, we're anxious for the harvest in the Republic! |

4th of July! It looks like a huge Independence Day weekend for Northern Michigan. God checked in for his annual week vacation at a secluded cottage on Glen Lake. There isn't an empty hotel room or camp site anywhere north of Benzie County. Demand is so strong for lodging that a family of 8 could only get one room with one queen size bed. We loaned them some shrink wrap from the warehouse so after everyone squeezed under the covers, they could wrap the bed to keep the book ends from falling off. Today, we're getting the rain out of our system, which should leave plenty of sun for the weekend. The lakes are warming. The cherries are ripening. All's good in the Republic. |
