Going Green Open House!
Last night's "Going Green" Open House was a big success! We showed off our Solar water heating system as well as some of the other efforts toward our initiative to reduce our energy usage by 40%. We had a healthy crowd, including Sarna Salzman from the Great Lakes Bioneers, Jim Lively and Brian Beauchamp from the Michigan Land Use Institute, Dave Barrons from 9 & 10 News, Patty O'Donnell from the Northwest Michigan Council of Governments, and Bill Queen with Northwestern Michigan College. For more information on Cherry Republic's greening efforts visit cherishearth.com. For a fun look at of last night's gathering, watch this video.

A study retreat...
A few weeks ago, we began to see 5 of the same faces peering out from behind thick textbooks in the Cafe . Their postures showed stress. Their faces showed overload. These certainly weren't our average customers reading newspapers or Stephen King! "Why are you making our fun country look like hard work?" we asked. We found out these citizens had chosen Glen Arbor to study for the Medical Board Exams. There are 5 of them, 3 from Detroit and 2 from Pittsburgh, who all randomly had the same thought in mind...get away for a month of hard work and study to prepare for the upcoming test. Slowly, (as we have been distracting them with 30 days of life, liberty, beaches and pie) they have come to look much better. Smiling. Laughing. Hmmm...do they have a chance of passing their tests now that they've learned the easy-go-lucky ways of the Republic? We'll let you know.

Getting Ready
We are busy putting the final touches on the properties for the busy July 4th weekend! We are now serving up Cherry Hard Cider in the Stomphouse (an alternative winery for all ages) in Glen Arbor. Also, we're hearing that we might be getting fresh cherries next week! Planning is underway for our annual entry into Glen Arbor's July 4th parade. Tomorrow myself and the Green Team are going to the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Fair at the Manistee County Fairgrounds in Onekema. We will be catching the opening remarks from Governor Granholm as well as attending some of the workshops. Hope to see you soon!
