Solar Panels heating up!
When visiting us this summer, look up! On the roof of the Café are four solar thermal panels that were installed just before Memorial Day Weekend. We are one of only two companies in the state of Michigan using solar energy to heat water and buildings. In the last two days, we have created 80,000 BTUs of energy. That's like buying a car with no gas in it, driving it all day, then finding the tank full when you finally stop at night! It feels good to do our part to reduce carbon emissions.

Cherry Pepper Jelly
Cherry Pepper Jelly!
A great jelly that's not just for breakfast! The slight spice of peppers mixed with tart cherries is great with cheese and crackers. This is our most popular jelly and a favorite on the sampling counter in Glen Arbor and Traverse City. Normally $5.95, on special this week for $4.95!

Buy it by the case and save even more!
This Special is good until June 10, 2008

Cherry Crop Update!
According to Dr. Nikki Rothwell at the Northwest Michigan Horticultural Station, the region is looking at a reduced cherry crop due to damage inflicted last week by a hard frost. Fortunately, it looks like plenty of cherries made it through ok! The apple crop seemed to be hit the hardest, and though the Republic has traditionally had little tolerance for apples (or any inferior fruit), we sympathize with the farmers affected by the losses. We will keep you updated in the weeks ahead.

National Park shares plans
The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park, our geographical neighbor in all directions, is having a public hearing tomorrow night. Park officials will be discussing General Management Plan alternatives for the next 20 years, each of which proposes various levels of restrictions and developments within the park. Cherry Republic has always been a big supporter of the park, and we are hoping for the preservation of fields and farming history, mountain biking and cross-country skiing trails, and a linear hiking trail from Platte Bay to Good Harbor Bay. Go here to view the alternatives and post your own comments.

Service Starts with a smile!
Warning: when you come up this summer, be prepared for even bigger smiles and even more of us going out of our way to make your visit great! Yesterday, we had a company-wide seminar where 30 staff members spent 3 hours learning how to ensure that every customer who visits gets great service. Each year, we raise up our service swords in preparation for the summer rush. This year, with the help of Dale Carnegie, we're more prepared than ever. Email me later and let me know how your service was when you visited.
