Memorial Day Weekend!
Great Memorial Day weekend! With gas hovering around $4.20 a gallon there was less traffic on the roads, but the Republic was bustling with activity all weekend! Many people noticed our new solar thermal hot water heater and were excited to talk about it. People also liked and used the new deck and seating at the winery. And lots of people were just excited to see that we are still doing as well as ever.

Freeze Warning! Cherries in Danger!
Last night we heard the dreaded words uttered..."Freeze warning!" Although it is uncommon for a freeze to happen this late in the spring, this is Northern Michigan; so it's not totally surprising. I talked to farmers in the area and they were cautiously optimistic; telling me that the sweet cherries got hit a bit harder than the tart, but it also depended on the area. Some areas did fall below freezing, and others were at or below 32 degrees for 3-4 hours. No one reported temperatures lower than 28 degrees, which is good because that could cause more severe damage. Farmers will have more information tomorrow after spending a day in the orchards. We're keeping our fingers crossed in the Republic and will let you know more next week.

Cherry Ginger Ale, Sangria Return!
After a prolonged absence from the Republic, Cherry Ginger Ale is back! By the bottle or case, this is the best Cherry Ginger Ale around; and it features a newly designed label. Also returning after a long time away is the Cherry Sangria. Try mixing the Ginger Ale and Sangria together for a great Sangria spritzer!

Turtle Rescue!
Last week there was a little snapping turtle crossing Dunn's Farm Road where a culvert lets the mucky creek flow under the pavement between Tucker Lake and Fisher Lake. I stopped the car and grabbed it to show Colebrook, and then put it back into the creek. Now nearly every time the little two year old goes by that spot he says, "Daddy put turtle in creek." And I can't drive by there now without slowing down and watching the turtles warming themselves in the sun each morning. There were 8 of them this morning, their dark shells soaking up the rays. They make me envious for warm enough weather to lay in the sun myself.
